This Valentine Day, I decided to dedicate a post to my favorite love songs and outfits inspired by them. Love has so many names and colors. The songs I chose from artists like Leonard Cohen, Magnetic Fields, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Depeche Mode picture different images of love. Romance saturated with sadness, betrayal and loneliness. Love described by those artists can be experienced in so many ways from excitement and joy to urgent anticipation.
Fashion resembles love, as it is moody, unexpected, wanted, and desired. It is possible to express a multitude of feelings through the clothes we wear. When I get ready for the romantic night out, I usually listen to music and it dictates my choices. Somehow, I end up wearing clothes that match the melody or the lyrics. They can be either sophisticated and feminine, or rebellious/tomboyish. The jewelry constitutes a cherry on the top. It makes my outfit complete.
I went through hundreds of love songs to write this piece. I did not want to select the obvious ones that are usually associated with Valentine's Day. My vision of love is never calm or ideal. It always has elements of drama like the songs and outfits that I put together for you. Romantic night out for me means ruffled silk mini dresses and delicate jewelry as well as feminine boots or high heels. Whatever makes you feel powerful and sexy!
