March is a special month in New York. It always brings the promise of a long awaited Spring, warmer temperatures, bright colors on the streets, big transition in everyone's wardrobe and that extra spring in everybody's step and lot of exciting cultural events, among others Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, which is one of my favorite movie festivals in New York. This time I could only see one movie and I am even more content that I have made such a perfect choice. Last Sunday I saw "21 Nights with Pattie" directed by Arnaud and Jean-Marrie Larrieu. I loved, loved and loved it!
I do not want to reveal too much as if like me, you are fans of poetic rustic French landscapes, innocent promiscuity, black comedy and a great psychological mystery, this movie will not disappoint you. I do not know how French movie makers do it but they make us see gentle and romantic traits even in a necrophiliac. The movie evolves around certain death, mysterious disappearance, unresolved family matters from the past and all that is executed with such a light mixture of healthy dark sense of humor. The main character Caroline (amazing Isabelle Carré) arrives at a small French village for the funeral of her estranged mother who seemed to have quite a reputation when it comes to her adventurous love life. From the very beginning things do not go according to the plan. Each character in this movie has their own flavor; from a very liberated caretaker Pattie who really knows how to enjoy life and is more than open to strangers when it comes to the confessions concerning her sex life, a reserved Caroline who lost her romantic passion years ago and is being put to the test by all the vivacious characters she met on her journey, a grotesque police inspector and asuper hot 18 year old son of Pattie;its a whole gallery of personalities who despite being set in such a quiet surroundings, entertain the audience greatly for the whole duration of the movie.

I always analyze movies through the lens of style and fashion. This time I became very nostalgic for the simplicity of Spring/Summer style. Warm weather makes it so easy to make a fashion statement with a simple dress. As French women are virtuosos when it comes to "I just woke up like that" style, I immediately thought about the brand based in Paris, which I have discovered recently - Proêmes de Paris. I let you have your own judgment about the clothes they make. However, for me their designs are the epitome of the light French elegance, simplicity and modern urban style. Those are clothes that can take you from a day at work to a weekend in the country. The name of the brand is a combination of two words: poetry and prose and the company's motto is to create comfortable clothes for every day but at the same time there is the notion there that fashion is a dream; it should be poetic, romantic, sophisticated yet simple. Just perfect style for this Spring!
I highly recommend watching "21 Nights with Pattie" and getting inspiration for your Spring/Summer wardrobe from beautiful French designs of Proêmes de Paris!!!
