As the US premier of Yves Saint Laurent's bio pic is coming soon, I am almost finished with the great book about the life of Yves, Karl Lagerfeld and crème de la crème of the Paris in the seventies, the great fall. There are so may details in this incredible book about the talent, rivalry, dramas and ambitions of YSL and Karl, American models, socialites, , their psychological dramas and intricacies, passions and deep loneliness.
Whats interesting, there are also great insights on how those two fashion mega brains loved being surrounded by beauty both in the form of humans as well as objects.
I had my eyes on the beautifully published Private world of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berger for quite a long time. It shows Saint Laurent's various apartments and houses, including one in Algiers. Amazing collections of art, pictures of one of his favorite photographers, Helmut Newton, vast libraries, creative studios, residencies inspired by Yves place of birth, Algiers, it's all there.
It was very difficult for me to choose and share something out of this vast collection of mesmerizing pictures; however, I chose a few which to a great degree represent Yves' eye for detail and originality. Therefore there is the Middle East inspired entrance hall, very rare, beautifully engraved wooden door that was transported all the way from Siberia, Yves' studio with creative boards, work space and lots of books, window with very unusual shape, desk where he used to draw and one of the most amazing bird shape garden chairs by François-Xavier Lalanne and traditional library with modern sculptures.
The life of Yves Saint Laurent was full of drama, emotional instability, hunger for new and search for constant inspiration and excitement. Those intense concoction gave birth to his designs and the originality of his surroundings, which will never go out of fashion.
