Those who are in London now until 27th of July 2014 are extremely lucky. Victoria and Albert Museum is hosting amazing exhibition covering history of Italian fashion from the Second World War until today.
Extremely detail oriented show presents the history of fashion from post-war ruins, through the 1950's where Italy was one of the most popular location for Hollywood producers until now; with around 100 outfits and accessories from designers such as Valentino, Pucci, Gucci, Prada, etc.
I was really fortunate thanks to my British connections to get the beautifully published book which accompanies the exhibition. To my big surprise, this is not a typical coffee table book. It is a very thorough survey into history of what brought Italian fashion to its legendary now status. It examines fashion style not only from designers' perspective but also details tailoring methods, men's fashion, Hollywood impact on Italian designers and finally poses a question what Italian fashion will stand for in the future.
The exhibition and the book is a real delight for any fashion afficionado, stylist or image consultant. Watching movies of Antonioni, Fellini, Rossellini it is so hard to ignore the fact that Italians have amazingly strong sense of fashion and we can learn a lot about Italian style understanding where it originated from.
Amazing lecture and a visual pleasure! I will go deeper into it this weekend. Highly recommended!
Let me know what you think about Italian style and which Italian designer is your favorite?
