A trip to Italy has been on my mind for a long time. I planned to celebrate my birthday in Tuscany two years ago. Then pandemic broke out, and the universe as we knew it ceased to exist. Long-term planning is out of the picture for good now. The last two months have been pretty hectic here. It's time for new beginnings, new professional opportunities, new perspectives, and new dreams. Italy seems like a perfect last-moment destination. Anyone who reads this blog knows I am a fan of everything Italian, from food to fashion.
The movies set in Italy are my antidote for sadness, lack of motivation, and inspiration. I have seen so many Italian old and new movies through the years. They certainly shaped my perception of this country. For me, Italy stands for a celebration of life in all its forms: from endless dinners in the company of numerous friends to beautiful views taken from Slim Aarons' photos of the Amalfi coast. I still remember my first visit to Venice during the movie festival, the pre-Christmas mood of the streets of Milan, impeccable sense of style of my Italian friends. Don't worry! I am also aware of Italy's dark sides and its everyday problems. However, for now I focus on its beauty.
I want to walk those narrow Italian streets as Tilda Swinton did in The Bigger Splash. I crave to look at the Mediterranean Sea like Monica Vitti in L'Avventura. I intend to be inspired by all the newness and beauty following Ingrid Bergman's character in Voyage to Italy. Finally, I want to experience the spirit of wining and dining in a great company as Margherita Buy did in Le Fate Ignorati. Is it too much to ask? I sincerely hope it's not;)
