Fashion from the Chilling adventures of Sabrina

The first time I learned about female power was from the books and movies from my childhood. Heroines depicted in those stories were strong-willed and fearless. At the beginning of their adventures, those girls thrived on being unique, often misunderstood, considered loners or unfit to conform with the conservative standards of the general public. However, when the right opportunity arose, they were ready to protect their loved ones and found the most creative solutions in seemingly hopeless situations.

As adult women, we praise modern feminists and look for role models in the popular culture overpopulated with celebrities of all kind. We forget about pure instincts that led us when we were little girls and dream stories that shaped our perception of a perfect heroine. This time, I decided to go down the memory lane and find fashion inspirations in some of my favorite girl idols from the fairy-tales. It was difficult to narrow their number  down, but I hope the selection I made will help to  awaken you to find the freedom and innocence associated with childhood. Fashion for most of us is an interpretation of who we are, a way to show what inspires us and what makes us unique. All wonderful girls out there: let fashion reminds us of our strengths and powers that we possess!

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is one of my latest Netflix' guilty-pleasures. I haven't seen the original series but it is hard for me to imagine that it could beat the dark and entertaining sequel. It is so much fun to observe the style of Sabrina, as she is slowly transforming into a young witch. I loved Kiernan Shipka since Mad Men but only in these series did she prove to me that she is an excellent young actress. Her fashion style is quite minimal but dramatic enough to correspond with the theme of the TV show. There is plenty of black and red which beautifully contrasts with her blond hair. There are references to simple dresses, detachable crocheted collars and tight sweaters from the fifties. What she wears never overshadows what she does and that is the major strength of her style. However, when she has a special mission to accomplish her clothes speak more than words.

Fashion inspired by the Alice from Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland has always been a source of creative inspirations for me. When Alice enters new worlds and situations, becomes extremely tall or super small what keeps her positive is the realization that deep inside she always remains herself. If I were to describe the fashion style defined by our beloved Alice, it would be colorful, playful, trend-setting and daring and romantic. She would not shy away from ornamental jewelry, tapestry motives, dominant colors, and lush textures. It is a sort of modern princess attitude to fashion. It allows you to wake up with another idea for an outfit in which you feel adventurous and chic.

Finally, a heroine from one of the most cherished animations that I discovered as a young adult, Princess Mononoke. She is a warrior, lover of nature. She also has a special bond with her wolf-friend and wants to protect the forest and all its magical inhabitants from extinction. We can learn so much from this heroine! When I think about what she is wearing, the basics are: faux fur capes as her lifestyle demands a lot of activity, eco-friendly textiles, comfort and tribal accessories (She is a natural-born leader honoring her roots.)

If you are bored with your capsule wardrobe, I recommend re-reading one of your childhood books or watching a new TV series for teenagers or kids. Life could be so much more creative if we don't let our inner child disappear in the reality of a serious adult life.
