KUHO Spring/Summer 2017 Presentation in New York

As Korean beauty products took the American market by storm, it was just a matter of time for the Korean fashion to cast its spell on fashion lovers all over the world. Last week, the Korean based womenswear label, Kuho debuted in the US during New York fashion week with their Spring 2017 collection. The brand launched in 2003 by its head designer Ku-ho Chung and its sales in Korea are expected to exceed $89 million this year.

New York seems to be a perfect choice to showcase clothes which scream modernity without using any heavy embellishments except for bold prints, unexpected pops of color and gorgeous fabrics (custom-developed by Kuho). On the brand's website, we can read that fashion bears a resemblance to architecture in a way they both direct and design the space. In the past collections, Kuho showed its multiple sources of inspiration from fine art, ballet, photography.

What I love about Kuho's clothes is that they are both robust and fragile, structured yet fluid and it is easy to imagine them being worn from workday to the weekend. The collection featured lots of neutrals, solids as well as unique graphic patterns. I love the perfect combo of a classic white shirt with large black dots paired with a black camisole and midi white A-line skirt with proportionally larger black dots. There is so much modernity here without the unnecessary exaggeration, which makes some of the modern fashion clothes impossible to wear. I also like Kuho's take on office/evening look, a double-breasted black jacket with white buttons placed playfully higher than in its classic form. The look was completed with translucent black skirt worn with black shorts underneath.

Kuho's mission is not only to dress modern, independent women but since 2006 it has also been supporting children with visual impairment with Heart for Eye campaign. Kuho donates profits from t-shirts with sweet, childlike heart graphics to support the charity. As you know this blog loves supporting emerging brands and fashion designers with big hearts for great causes. Check out more designs from Kuho on their website. Let me know what you think. As fashion weeks continue, I will keep you posted on my discoveries.
