This winter holiday I wanted to give myself a little break from my almost 24/7 internet obsession. Before you start judging me, how am I supposed not to be an online addict, if most of my creative endeavors take place there. People I love and family are spread all over the world, I get inspired online, I do not have a TV, and I watch everything on my computer. However, for the first time in forever, I was disconnected from my American phone and the internet in all its forms for entire blissful 5 days, and I am really proud of myself. Not only did I survive, but I also had a chance to organize my future ideas for this blog, I read plenty of guilt-free books, listened to people more carefully, I had more fun meeting them in person, I was more observant and more open to whatever a given day had to offer. Now, I am back, refreshed and ready to embrace my popular online world with full energy. I might have missed some deadlines but all in all it was worth it.

Winter in my homeland could be severely cold, very gloomy with its gray skies and days changing into the nights so smoothly that you always pray for March to come as fast as it can. There are many ways to overcome cold weather spleen, but one of the most successful ways to do it is to surround yourself with people and objects that make me happy and boost my mood almost immediately. One of those things for me is candles.

When I think about candles what comes to mind are: festive holiday tables, feeling at home no matter where you are, the quickest way to create an atmosphere, feeling relaxed, meditation, stress-free zone, romantic moments, perfect gifts, luxury and adding warm vibe to any cold interior.

I discovered Bijou Candles quite recently and as there are so many options out there what speaks to me is that the company was created by a New York born, Alaina Young, a designer who spent her childhood in Vienna and transferred her love for Parisian-influenced style and art history into candles. I try to promote environmentally friendly concepts on this blog and Bijou Candles promote upcycling, as you can reuse the beautiful ceramic bases for the refills or as storage containers for your jewelry and whatever you feel suitable.

During this winter season, I fell in love with the Mulled Wine scent as it reminds me of holiday meetings with friends and has the ability to nourish your winter-tormented soul with the warm hints of cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. If you are in the mood for a walk down the memory lane in a snow covered forest, try Winter Pine. To add some sweetness to your interiors, go for Maple Apple Butter candle. Believe me, you will not be overwhelmed with, instead it is like a substitute for New England  fall vacation filled with spice apples and maple syrup.

P.S. If you want to purchase your very own Bijou Candles, as a New Year gift from me use this code: StyleCharmer15, for a 15% discount. The code expires January 31st, 2016.
