Table almost like from Alice in Wonderland - MAMAN NYC
A birthday which starts with a late breakfast and ends with an early dinner is definitely on the list of my most favorite things to do. Last Sunday, I had a great pleasure to plan and participate in my dear friend's birthday bash. We decided to focus mostly on the lower Manhattan, from Soho, through Lower Eastside until the East Village and just walk, shop and be visually and culinary inspired.
I read about Maman, Soho-based cafe and bakery on various blogs and I wanted to check it out for a very long time. A perfect occasion came up with my friend's birthday. It was slowly Sunday morning, that moment was otherwise hectic busy streets of the China Town are deserted; the landscape of the dusty memories from Saturday night parties is still in the air; dog owners seem to be the only busy silhouettes on the horizon. Those are my favorite NYC moments...

Maman welcomed us with lots of seating options to choose from and such a cozy and warm atmosphere. I have to admit, I acquire a strong affection for the rabbit vases that adorned each table. It was really hard to part with them. I fell in love with Maman because it is very unpretentious and quintessentially French in a New York style. With its tables of distressed wood, white porch chairs, rustic planter, you feel like you are enjoying your meal in a privacy of the porch in the Southern France. As it was a special celebration, we started with sweets and those will make your heart melt even if having a sweet tooth is usually not your kind of pleasure. There are no simple words to describe the richness of flavors and their delicacy. Therefore, I tempt you to try them as soon as you can.

When it comes to savory treats, you just cannot leave the cafe without trying their goat cheese quiche, and the standard French dish prepared Maman's way, Croque-Maman. As we found out later, the food gives you so much energy, that you can walk Lower Manhattan streets for hours, no pain and no complaints. If you are not in a mood for a sit-down breakfast, you can order great coffee, amazing pastries at the front counter and sit at the window observing fascinating city life, which only Manhattan streets can offer.

We will be back soon and hopefully often, as this place is very hard to forget. If you are already exhausted with your holiday shopping and preparations, just take a small break and spend some time in a magic and rich world of rabbits, great pastries and super friendly staff at the Soho location of Maman NYC. See you there, one day!
